My good friend, Laura, and her husband, Jeff, adopted twin boys from South Korea 3 years ago. She and I taught together for several years when I lived in SoCal and we've remained close. It was incredibly fulfilling to watch Jeff and Laura become parents after many years of obstacles. Kai and Cole, are amazing boys and a wonderful addition to their family. If you know anything about adoption, you know it can be extremely expensive, especially if done overseas. Jeff and Laura are hoping to adopt one more child, a little girl from South Korea, to complete their family. They hope to fundraise to make this happen.
How you can help
*If you live in the OC and have extra recylables or items you can donate to ongoing garage sales, contact her via her blog here.
*However, even if you don't live nearby, you can still support this worthy cause. At the top right-hand side of my blog, you will see a link for the "Schlabach Adoption Fundraiser." Click the link and simply order a new magazine subscription for yourself or even for someone else as a gift (we all read magazines, right?). 40% of each sale goes directly torwards their goal. At the bottom of the homepage, there is a running total so you can see how much progress has been made.
I love this family and I want to see their dream realized. I'll probably do another post or two on this in the coming months because I feel like it's a worthy cause and it's very easy for people to get involved, even if you do not personally know them. Thanks in advance for anything you might do to help my friends!

You're such a great friend!!
ReplyDeleteWe have some good friends who are about to adopt two siblings - they are doing domestic through the foster adoption system though. But it's just amazing to see people's hearts for children that aren't their own flesh and blood and it certainly makes you want to help them out however you can. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I'll keep her info in case we have things to get rid of once we get to Simi. I would rather donate to a good cause than to just donate in general. :-)
