Home again, home again

A Million Little PiecesWe arrived back safely from our CA romp on Friday night. For those of you who didn't know, we took a 3-day, cross-country road trip and drove Aron's truck back to Dallas. We took I-10 and stayed the first night in Tucson, AZ. We slept in, got up the next morning and were on our way after we getting our Starbucks fix and Del Taco breakfast burritos to boot. Day 2 was the longest day, by far, as we traveled through Las Cruces, NM (where I learned that my grandpa's mom's family was from), into El Paso, and finally ending up in Midland, TX for the night. We rolled in about 1:30 AM and crashed. After sleeping in again, we were off after picking up Starbucks (of course). The drive was really quite beautiful and although I grew up touring alot of the United States by car on childhood family vacations, it is just now I am realizing that a significant amount of the US is empty. What wide-open spaces we have! A highlight of our road trip was me reading the book A Million Little Pieces by James Frey to Aron. This helped keep him awake (as he refused to let me drive even once, telling me this was my vacation--what a sweetheart!) and gave us new depth and insight into the life of those people who struggle with addictions. If you can get past the heavy language and often times, heavy imagery, in the book, we highly recommend this read--you'll never look at an addict the same way again.

Happy 2006!

  6. We enjoyed the wonderful time that we were able to have with you both. Of course, there is never enough time. I don't remember when my heart has ached like it did the night you left our house to leave the next morning. Mom and I love you two. God is richly blessing what He began in our youth when we committed our lives to Him in college, then married in 1972.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the Word of God. Aron and Steve are studying it diligently to be able to teach others. And, it will change their lives. In Genesis, we are told, God spoke the universe and our planet into existence. In Isaiah we are told, "The grass withers and the flower fades, but the Word of our Lord will stand forever." In John 1 we are told, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (Jesus before time began, and Jesus when he came to earth, and now the Bible that we possess...it is all about Jesus Christ, knowing and serving him. Then, in Revelation we are told that Jesus will appear on a white horse, with the armies of heaven behind him in clean white linen. There is a name written on Him that only He knows. His robe will be dipped in the blood of his enemies, and His name is The Word of God.

God has been impressing on me, again, the importance of a consistent quiet time, Bible study, and taking the Word of God into my life. That is what I desire for Aron, Suzanne, Steve, and Shannon. I desire that they will never stop growing in their knowledge of and service to, and love for Jesus Christ, The Word of God.

Not sure where all that came from, but wanted to share that about and for you, Suzanne and Aron....(and Steve and Shannon).

We look forward to seeing you before too long.

    Love,

    Dad

(Father of the Brides, and fortunate father-in-law to two incredible men, all of whom I have the privilege of loving.)
