success!

I made my first batch of homemade baby food yesterday--acorn squash. And Mags LOVED it. I simply baked it at 350 for 45 minutes, scooped out the flesh, purreed and added water, and voila! Instant goodness. My good friend La and my new friend Beth (here in Chicago) have inspired me to make my own food. Thanks, girls. I'm using the book "Super Baby Food" and it's incredibly helpful. Mags has now eaten avocado, sweet potatoes, pears, and squash and likes them all. Hooray!

  1. That's so fun that she loves all the food. So far Hud has had sweet potatoes, avocado, acorn squash (he does not like it), banana and papaya. It really isn't bad making it on your own. I'm so glad that you are enjoying it.

  2. Well done; you'll have to pass on your recipes. I hope to make my own too when our baby boy arrives (and begins eating solids). :)

  3. Hooray! I'm so glad that you had a successful baby food making experience and Mags is a champ eater. I hope the road to solids continues to be so smooth.

  4. Why, Suzanne, why?! Now, I feel I must try to make some too. I'll have to check out the book you mentioned.

  5. How exciting!! While I do not have the time to make baby food, it sounds cool. :) I have mashed up a fresh banana once. ;) With 2 kids... can be too much. But good for you for making it!! Thanks now you make the rest of us non making baby food people look bad ;) ha ha! Kidding!

  6. that is a great book suz! glad mags is loving it...i tried in earnest, but owen was WAY too picky about texture at that age. I guess i couldn't get it exactly like good old Earth's Best and Gerber. My homemade guacamole is still one of his favorites though...so i guess that counts! :)

  7. YAY for Suzanne! At first making their food is daunting, but after awhile it becomes second nature. My boys loved everything but the brussel sprouts I made for them (and I basically made that to get a good reaction out of them). Great book too!
